Abstract

Due to the high competitiveness of the market, a factor that will interfere with the quality and the final cost of the project, is of paramount importance. Much of the losses are known to be predictable and preventable. The main objective of this work is to determine the loss rates of three materials ceramic block, concrete block and ceramic floors. The data collection took place in two works and in a period of approximately five months. Initially, a literature review is presented, which classifies the different types of material losses and the possible sources of losses detected in previous studies. Loss rates were determined from studies already carried out and the amount actually used was verified in the field. The research carried out demonstrated the variation of the loss indices for the different types of inputs studied in the construction site. This study also showed that there are opportunities to reduce material losses through improvements in material handling and storage, and especially through the application of methods that enable the identification and control of losses during the construction process. Finally, a set of guidelines for the implementation of a material loss control system is presented, aiming at reducing them to acceptable levels
